She is a Clinical Lecturer and honorary specialty registrar in pediatric infectious diseases at Oxford University and the Children\u2019s Hospital, Oxford. She studied medicine at Maastricht University, the Netherlands, where she graduated in 2009. She completed her PhD cum laude in 2015 at the department of Medical Microbiology of the Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen, the Netherlands (thesis: \u201cConstructing protection and immune responses against malaria. Studies on whole sporozoite immunization approaches\u201d). Else was trained in pediatrics in the Netherlands: at the Canisius Wilhelmina Hospital, the Amalia Children&#8217;s Hospital at Radboud University Medical Center, and the Emma Children&#8217;s Hospital at Amsterdam University Medical Center. She worked for 5 months as a pediatric registrar in the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi, during her training.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Co-Investigator<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":987,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"nf_dc_page":"","_et_pb_use_builder":"off","_et_pb_old_content":"<p class=\"font_0\"><strong>Dr. Salgame<\/strong> is a Professor in the Department of Medicine, Center for Emerging and Re-Emerging Pathogens, Rutgers University. She is the Director of the MD\/PhD Program and the Graduate Medical Research Program. Her research focuses on Mycobacterium tuberculosis and host immune mechanisms that protect against infection and progression to disease. Her research team also studies the biology and host response of clinical strains of M. tuberculosis with differing transmissibility. Her group conducts these investigations in humans and animal models. She and her collaborators also perform biomarker studies at several international sites. Dr. Salgame is on the Editorial Board of Infection and Immunity and is also an Associate Editor for PLOS Pathogens. In addition to her research pursuits, Dr. Salgame has managed and led a range of science training programs. She is Program Director on a T32 training grant in Infection, Immunity and Inflammation.
