He serves on the steering committee of the East African Consortium for Clinical Research and is co-chair of the TB Stakeholder Community Engagement Working Group and a member of the TB Clinical Trials Infrastructure Working Group. Steve has also coordinated the East Africa Healthy Pregnancy, Birth, Growth, and Development Knowledge Initiative that is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Steve holds a PhD in medical research, Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich, Germany and a Master of Arts in project planning and management from the University of Nairobi. A Kenyan citizen, Steve lives in Kisumu, Kenya, with his spouse, June Kasyoki, and their two girls.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Site PI<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":1163,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"nf_dc_page":"","_et_pb_use_builder":"off","_et_pb_old_content":"<strong>Dr. Lakshmi Ramachandra<\/strong> became the TB Section Chief in DMID at NIAID in March 2019, and currently oversees the TB program for the Division. Dr. Ramachandra earned her PhD at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India and then joined the lab of Dr. Alexander Rudensky at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute\/University of Washington, to work in the field of immunology. She then joined Dr. Clifford Harding at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) where she began studying how Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) subverts the immune response. Dr. Ramachandra continued her career at CWRU, and as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology, conducted basic and translational research on the immune responses to Mtb and influenza. Dr. Ramachandra came to the NIH in 2010 as a Scientific Review Officer at NIAID. She subsequently moved to the Division of Allergy, Immunology and Transplantation (DAIT) as a Program Officer and served as the programmatic point of contact for TB research at DAIT.
