In 2016, he worked as a resident medical officer in Eastern Uganda with Mbale Regional Referral Hospital. During this period, he managed patients with HIV\/AIDS, and Tuberculosis including those with drug-resistant Tuberculosis. Dr Nasinghe Emmanuel carried out lifesaving surgical interventions for emergencies like appendicitis, intestinal obstruction traumatic injuries etc. He has also managed obstetric emergencies, with interventions like emergency caesarean section and assisted vaginal deliveries. He has worked in a neonatal unit handling day to day care of neonates. In 2018, Dr Nasinghe Emmanuel joined the department of Immunology and Molecular Biology as a research associate. Currently, am a study coordinator with NIH funded Collaborative African Genomics Network(CAFGEN). The project is examining host-pathogen factors affecting pediatric HIV\/TB among a pediatric cohort in Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2019, he joined the integrated biorepository of H3Africa as the Ethical, Legal and Society implications (ELSI) officer. My new role is to ensure wider participation of the general public in biobanking, in order to build a large repository of biospecimens for biomedical research and innovation. Dr Nasinghe Emmanuel is pursuing a masters in Epidemiology and Biostatics and his masters research proposal is on validating TMK antigen assay as a possible marker for active Tuberculosis in urine. He is a self-driven individual with the ability to work with teams, diligent with his duties and skilled in problem-solving. He has further training in handling paediatric emergencies, public speaking, counselling and Good Clinical Practice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Co-Investigator<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":1119,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"nf_dc_page":"","_et_pb_use_builder":"off","_et_pb_old_content":"<p class=\"font_0\"><strong>Dr. Salgame<\/strong> is a Professor in the Department of Medicine, Center for Emerging and Re-Emerging Pathogens, Rutgers University. She is the Director of the MD\/PhD Program and the Graduate Medical Research Program. Her research focuses on Mycobacterium tuberculosis and host immune mechanisms that protect against infection and progression to disease. Her research team also studies the biology and host response of clinical strains of M. tuberculosis with differing transmissibility. Her group conducts these investigations in humans and animal models. She and her collaborators also perform biomarker studies at several international sites. Dr. Salgame is on the Editorial Board of Infection and Immunity and is also an Associate Editor for PLOS Pathogens. In addition to her research pursuits, Dr. Salgame has managed and led a range of science training programs. She is Program Director on a T32 training grant in Infection, Immunity and Inflammation.
