Kelly Stinson is the owner of Cultura, a specialized in-house management team of microbiology consultants who specialize in lab gap analyses, development of plans and procedures to bridge those gaps, and hands-on training and technical support to build capacity and maintain quality for mycobacteriology laboratories participating in clinical trials for TB. With a combined 20 years of direct US and international experience in the industry, Cultura has created the standard for laboratory readiness, utilizing standardized operating procedures and reporting tools, validation protocols, and targeted data reviews to investigate potential performance issues. This strengthening of local mycobacteriology laboratories is an important ethical consideration, as it ensures that clinical trial participants are treated in a timely and appropriate fashion, improves service delivery for all TB patients, and broadens the capacity for future development of much needed new drugs and diagnostics across a range of diseases.
