Chad is a clinical microbiologist at the National Health Laboratory Service, Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa, and is lecturer at the Division of Medical Microbiology, University of Cape Town. He has clinical experience in rural, acute care, and general medicine, with a focus on HIV/TB. His MSc investigated nutritional and pharmacogenetic aspects of HIV/TB-associated peripheral neuropathy. Since qualifying as a clinical microbiologist, Chad has been involved in a number of projects evaluating TB diagnostics, including the FujiLAM assay and GeneXpert MTB/XDR. His other interests include clinical bacteriology and antimicrobial resistance epidemiology.
